It happened on this day…September 5th

On this day in 1882 – First Labor Day parade was held with 10,000 workers in attendance in New York City. This first celebration was initiated by Peter J. McGuire, a carpenter and labor union leader who cofounded the Federation of Organized Trades and Labor Unions.
