On this day in 1995 – A truck bomb destroyed the Alfred P. Murrah Federal Building in Oklahoma City, killing 168 people and injuring hundreds. Timothy McVeigh was later convicted and executed for the crime. His co-conspirator, Terry Nichols, was sentenced to life in prison.
This deadly bombing was the worst terrorist attack on U.S. soil until the September 11, 2001 World Trade Center attack. A terrible day in our history.
What little remained of the Murrah Federal Building was demolished on May 23, 1995. In 2000, a memorial was built on the location to remember the tragedy of the Oklahoma City Bombing.
